The model P45 is a semi-automatic, striker-fired locked-breech designs, relying on a modification of its Browning dropping-barrel system with a lug just above the chamber locking the barrel into the roof of its slide. Actually, although the trigger is designated as a double-action only, marked DAO, by the manufacturer, the operation of the P45 is actually similar to the Glock, Springfield Armory XD and S&W M&P pistol models.
The true double-action only triggers are designed to thoroughly cock and fire a pistol, allowing a re-fire operation on a miss-fired round without racking its slide. As the other models mentioned, the Kahr triggers use a slide-assisted cocking action that removes much of the weight and even the length of the trigger pull. The result of the P45 model is that the trigger cannot cock the striker on its own, which is practically more like a single-action trigger. The cartridge of the P45 model was developed by a well-known gun designer John Browning. In 1911 this cartridge was adopted by the United States Ordnance Department together with the Colt-Browning automatic pistol.
It has also become the official military handgun, using by several different governments, such as the Mexico, Argentina and Norway. The P45 is designed with the 45 Automatic cartridge what is probably the most powerful military handgun cartridge in use today. It’s a quite heavy and powerful sub-sonic round. The Kahr’s pistol has a passive striker block, and there is no magazine disconnect, so the shooter, as with any other pistol, must be sure to clear the chamber after pulling its magazine. That’s a common practice to insure there will not be a negligent discharge. Fitted with drift-adjustable, white bar-dot combat sights, the P45 is slightly over an inch wide at its widest point, and this pistol weighs 18.5 ounces. This model is equipped with a stainless steel magazine which weighs two ounces.
